These empty benches

This room, called the reference library, sees many kids..50, 60, or maybe even more, at a time, studying, preparing, or simply taking refuge from the campus. I’ve spent the better part of my final year sitting on these benches, notebook spread open, studying for my entrance. I would choose the seat alongside the windows, plug in my laptop charger, and feel a certain kind of relief as the sunlight warmed my notebook. Whenever I close my eyes, I can still feel the quiet noise of that room..the rustling of pages, the swing of the doors, the whispers of friends trying to stay quiet, but never quite managing to.

You can’t help but look around and see people studying, working on something, or maybe just sitting there for the quiet ambience. And sometimes, I do wonder, what happened to those kids who were diligently writing notes and revising? What about the friends who just couldn’t stay quiet together? I also wonder..has the plug point beside the second window from the right been repaired?

The thoughts don’t stop. I even think..will I ever find another reference library with a window seat, the same warmth of the sun, and that same soothing feeling for my soul?

Let’s see. Getting working plug points with hard chairs would be a good start.

See ya.
